That town (of course) couldn't allow women to vote for the President, but they did allow them to vote in city elections, and Susannah Madora Salter became the first woman mayor in the United States! Her former home is a museum, you can see a photo here: http://mail.sumnercomm.net/~argonia/museum.htm, and she is also listed in Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susanna_M._Salter, and the Kansas State Historical Society here: http://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/susanna-madora-salter/12191.Sherry - Family Tree Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08771660350904508670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1795151317189963876.post-6101098627189829222011-03-22T13:43:45.469-07:002011-03-22T13:43:45.469-07:00This article really got under my skin. Amazing, isn't it? It took an enormous amount of courage and perseverance to accomplish what they did in getting the vote.

And to think that some societies are matriarchal, too....Sherry - Family Tree Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08771660350904508670noreply@blogger.com
