May 9 - And The Guest Author Is . . .

ARE YOUR ANCESTORS LOOKING A LITTLE FADED AND WORN?
WONDERING WHAT TO DO ABOUT THEIR CONDITION?

Then join Shades for the May 9 Edition of Friday From The Collectors when George Geder of the George Geder Genealogy - Photography - Restoration Blog discusses digital photographic restoration. George will give us an overview of the importance of digital restoration and what can be accomplished with your old faded and worn family photographs.

While George's craft may be photographic digital restoration, in his hands the craft is pure art. The examples of photographs that he has restored and displayed on his blog are absolutely amazing! I love his work and his blog. I must also admit to spending a great deal of time lurking, as he has so much to offer the family historian and collector of old photographs.

You may also recognize George from the Grand Army of the Republic Photograph (GAR) segment on the History Detectives. It aired in Season 5 Episode 3. A Civil War enthusiast owned a very intriguing vintage photograph that depicted about 20 older white men in full dress uniform, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with two black men. George's great great grandfather, John Stevenson, was one of the two black men pictured.

The story of how and why George's great great grandfather Stevenson came to be a part of this photograph can be read on The History Detectives, where you will also find a transcript of the episode. The answer to the question and the vintage photograph itself are an amazing trip through history.

I am really looking forward to the May 9 Edition of Friday From The Collectors with George Geder. See you then!
