Wandering The Web - Shades Makes A Connection

Writing About Old Photographs Is Not Just An Avocation
It's An Adventure

Shades has made another connection! The Photo Of The Week Article for June 9, 2008, was of the photograph below.

Edward G. Greene

I had purchased a beautiful 1884 leather bound photo album containing 21 autographed cabinet card photographs and 17 unidentified cabinet card photographs, all of men.

I had chosen to research this man for the faint sign of a smile on his face and challenged myself to find him. Research revealed him to be Edward G. Greene. I told his story in The Photo Of The Week, where I also wrote about his wife, Mary J. Wright Greene.

Mary J. Wright Greene

Recently Shades received the following comment:

Mary Jane Greene was my great-grandfather's sister, which makes her my great aunt. It's interesting that she was involved in kindergarten and education. At least three of her nieces became elementary school teachers, my grandmother being one of them.

I'm so grateful to you for providing this link to a part of our family history - and you know how difficult it is to find photos of family members, so I especially appreciate those.

Thanks very much!

Yes, Shades knows how very difficult it is for some families to find those precious family photographs lost in time. We'll write the stories, you make the connections!

Remember!
Shades is about the connections!

Yes Elizabeth! Woo Hoo indeed!

Emails like this make me cry. One day my Great Great Grandfather John Campbell's photo will show up in an auction somewhere or online.

I can't wait.
