How Your Grandmother Did It!

Nielsen's Bakery in Seattle is famous for authentic Danish pasteries. I watched Erika Schultz's video of the action at Nielsen's and how they make those kringles!

Then it occurred to me. As family historians why don't we video record our mothers, fathers, grandparents, or relatives doing something they're famous for within the family.

Baking, cooking, building, singing, dancing, whatever. Future generations would love it. You could attach the recipe, plans, lyrics, and make it a future heirloom. This video is loaded with inspiration.

Got some ideas? Comment!

This is a great idea! I've been taking videos of our annual "regatta" for several years now and currently I'm working on building a DVD of the history of the regatta. This year I also took video of our Christmas luncheon and Yankee Trader gift exchange at work that was a big hit. iMovie makes it so easy and the results really are priceless.

Denise:

That sounds so interesting. What a wonderful idea for a DVD.

You're right about iMovie and after seeing '09 I can't wait.

Killa,

Not a useful comment, but all I could think of was an experience from my film class in college. I think it was our assignment to do either a 4 or 8 minute film (yes, film - 8mm). My classmate Joe, of Italian descent, tells us his film is "How to Make Soup" starring his grandmother. We were intrigued...an Italian grandmother giving away soup-making secrets! The film was hysterical. You see his grandma go into the kitchen, use a can-opener to open up a can of Campbell's, pour it into a pot (close-up of the plop into the pot!), and cook it. It fit his goofy personality to a T.

Anyway, you're right! Great idea!

OMG Donner!

That's exactly how my Grandmother did it.

Your comment was ROTFLMAO funny. I just hope Joe added it to his family history.

Here in "Wet and Wild Washington" we could use a laugh.
