Meet Vickie Everhart And Her Captured Moments

CAPTURED MOMENTS

A Monthly - Weekend With Shades - Column

Meet The New "Captured Moments" Columnist

You've seen the Digital Scrapbooking work of Vickie Everhart, author of the BeNotForgot Blog, in her submissions to Shades' Smile For The Camera. She creates jewels, works of digital art. So it is fitting that she assume the mantel of the Captured Moments Column here at Shades. Jasia will be a hard act to follow, but Vickie is just the woman to do it. So join us in welcoming Vickie to "Weekend With Shades."

Vickie refers to her creations as “bricolage.” From concocting a way to “varnish” her fabric and thread creations -- including cross-stitch, tatted lace & her own unique “funeral home fans” -- to creating heritage photo collages for sharing on her family history blog, Vickie makes use of what she has available to come up with finished projects that are uniquely her own

About herself Vickie says, "I could never be a painter/artist. I am not one who is able to visualize a final project and then apply the brush strokes to the canvas layer by layer as I build a new masterpiece. When working on a version of my bricolage creations -- whether needlework, or fabric or paper collages, or digi-scrap -- I start out with a completely blank slate adding an image here or there, and tweeking the colors and backgrounds, adding dingbats -- just playing with the box of colors until . . ."

Vickie works from an ever-growing collection of freely available items -- such as clipart and textured backgrounds, fonts and dingbats -- as well as an assortment of treasured family photos. There is a written piece attributed to a Ms. Wright which defines how Vickie feels about researching and telling the stories of those who came before. One line says that, "So, as a scribe called I tell the story of my family."

And she will help us all to tell the story of our families in this new medium of Digital Scrapbooking.

Born and raised in Texas, and a 4th great-granddaughter of an alcalde from the days of the Republic of Texas, Vickie aka BeNotForgot has been married to Bennie for almost 35 years. They are owned by a couple of two-year-olds -- a poodle named Riley, and a big Hemingway tomcat affectionately known as Cisco the six-toed cat. The yard at their house is kept neat and clean by two red-headed goats known as Jake and Mandy, who even eat the poison ivy!

I'm very excited about Vickie's new role at Shades! She has been the inspiration for my meager attempts at digi-scrapping and I love her creativity! Will follow her articles here with joy.
